Flower Power for Dogs
Sun Time Fun Time!
It’s nearly summer and the weather has been perfect for outdoor-time with our dogs (and cat)! We allow our cat to enjoy some supervised outdoor time with us and the pups. One of our ongoing projects-in-progress has been creating a fun and mentally stimulating outdoor environment for our pets to enjoy.
The next few blog posts will detail some of the changes we have made to our dogs’ play yard over the years, including activity areas we have added. In the photograph below, you see a fairly bland yard without much in the way of interesting scents or textures. While my dogs enjoyed running and playing catch in this version of our yard, their wasn’t much else to do.
I have since added sections of the yard with safe herbs for my dogs to sniff and nibble, a variety of textures (grass, dirt, stone), and even auditory stimulation (wind chimes). I’ve added privacy covers to our fence to reduce overly-stimulating sights as well. This is an ever-evolving project and I will tell you right now that anything that is planted in my dog’s play yard as the potential of being trampled, eaten, or peed on! So flexibility is a must. I am enjoying creating a relaxing space for both my pets and myself to take advantage of
.I hope you’ll follow along in the coming weeks to see new photos and read about the improvemnts I’ve made. My four-legged friends sure seem to like it!
Until next time…
